Hi, I’m Kate.
I started this blog back 2012 when I set out for my 1 year break in Bali. When I started it was a way to keep in contact with my friends and family so I didn’t have to write the same “This is what I did today…” emails to everyone but it took off and became an obsession and I continued. The 1 year trip continued too; almost 3 years later and I still haven’t gone home. Okay, I lie…there was that short visit but you know what I mean.
“Home” is Victoria, British Columbia. Victoria is situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island; a smallish island in Canadian standards but as I just discovered the 43rd largest island in the world. Currently, I am in Santiago, Chile living in a fantastic don’t really know how we can afford it apartment with my boyfriend aptly named The Chilean in posts. We met in Italy, it took off and we decided to see if things could work in ‘real life’. So far so good.
As I said before this blog started as a way to keep my friends and family informed on my travels and I feel that I am still doing that. I don’t want to write the official reviews for resorts or restaurants; I want to tell a story. I want to share interesting anecdotes from interesting places. If the reader finds helpful tips and information in these stories even better. Readers beware, I’m sarcastic and I find the interesting in the seemingly uninteresting such as my post on tampons.
When I am not clicking away on my keyboard or getting stressed out by marketing strategies, I work as an English as a Second Language teacher. I started this job on a 3-month volunteer position in the Indian Himalayas and after a few years in dead-end jobs I decided Why not give that teaching thing another crack and 6 countries later I’m still going. It took me a long time to figure out what I am good at doing and it’s teaching. I get angry when people look at ESL teachers like the beach bums they are portrayed to be- some of us work really hard but that’s a post for another time. I have another blog that I am running http://www.englishwithkate.wordpress.com where I am offering tips and online ESL classes via Skype.
Okay, well folks, I hope you enjoy the ride.
