Book 2 in my 2016 book challenge was the book written by a celebrity or book written by a comedian. I haven’t decided which one yet. It depends what else comes up, I chose “Why Not Me?” by Mindy Kaling. I chose it for 2 reasons; it was already on my e-reader and I quite liked The Mindy Project on TV and I like the public face that Mindy Kaling puts out there so I thought why not.
I’ve already said this to a friend but this book is like Mindy turned on a voice to type program on her computer and just started talking. I really have no idea what this book is supposed to be about. To compare, when I was flying to Chile, I read Aziz Ansari’s “Modern Romance”, again because I liked his character on Parks and Rec. Personal note: I really need to stop choosing books based solely on TV characters I like….. it might not have been very good….Sorry, Aziz but at least there was a clear point to it. I don’t know if “Why Not Me?” is supposed to be a kind of autobiography, a guide for women or simply a place for her to mention all the famous people she knows.
It was kind of disorienting to read as well, and this is why I mentioned a dictation program, there are so many different tangents in one anecdote that it’s really hard to follow any train of thought. One of my friends said it was “Hilarious” but I kind of thought it was just awkward.
On to book 3.
